On this tour you can have it all. Sunrise, beautiful light in the old town when it is still quiet, portraits, street photography, a touch of culture.
Now it is winter, we meet at 5:30 AM in the old town to witness and photograph the beautiful colours in the sky. If the sky looks spectacular we have a crash course on the essential camera settings, so you won’t miss any of those moments. On cloudy days there is more time for the camera settings. When the sun rises everything will lit up beautifully and we move around to benefit from the best light. I will show you how to look for the best light. Often you will see young Vietnamese women dressed in traditional clothes with the conical hat. See how easy it is to approach them and to take photos of them.
Once the best light is gone, the locals start racing around on their motorbikes and the first tourists show up, we move into the alleys. There we experience local life, still in the old town, but away from the tourists. Here we focus more on street photography, Vietnamese culture, learning how to take portrait photos and tons of other things.
If there is still time left we head to a different side of Hoi An, with all sorts of different trades. Depending on the photographic opportunities we will also pass a local market, away from the crowds. This area is also a tour on its own (the 7AM till 11AM tour), without having to get out of bed super early.
Although the tour officially ends at 9:30AM, we often continue longer at no extra costs. For each tour, pace, weather and opportunities are different and I would not want to skip beautiful experiences because of a time schedule. We may be invited to visit people’s homes, something that gives the trip a special touch. If it is important to finish after the regular 4 hours, you can stop at any time of course. At the end we sit down and while enjoying a drink there is time to relax and discuss.
On tour you will receive a password, which gives you access to the “clients” section. There you will find many articles on things I talk about on tour, especially the technical issues. When you hear all the options the main camera settings have to offer, you may feel confused at times. These articles make sure you will never forget what you learnt!
From 05:30 – 09:30AM
Beginners, intermediates, pros
VND 950,000 (or US$ 42) per person
On this tour there is not enough time to teach tripod-photography, as light changes too quickly. To learn more about low light photography with a tripod I recommend to go on the extended afternoon tour or on the night tour.
The booking system is currently under revision and hopefully it will be up and running soon.
